I can't change screen resolution

My screen resolution will only work at 800x600. If I try to change it I get a blank screen with a message Invalid Scan Frequency. Then after a few moments it goes back to the desktop at 800x600. The graphic card is an ATI Radeon 7000. The OS is win98se. I don't know if any other resolution worked. I was always ok with 800x600, but need to change it now. Any ideas?

Try DLing the latest drivers from ATI, uninstalling the old driver, and reinstalling the new driver.

It sounds like maybe you've never installed drivers for the card on this machine...go to Device Manager and see if you have any yellow flags.

"Invalid Scan Frequency"

Try changing the monitor settings.... under advacaned settings.

The screen refresh rate might be set up wrong....

Set it to default and see what happens.

The monitor settings are on default already. Is it necessary to uninstall the drivers before installing the new driver? How do you uninstall a driver? There are no yellow highlites in device manager.

What monitor do you have? Possibly it can't handle xga resolutions.

That you can go above svga, would suggest that the drivers are correct. If they were the 'standard display driver', it would be locked on vga/svga.
