Kids Installing Windows 98

Hi,
This is my first post here. I am trying to install windows 98 on my old computer. I have a boot disk from www.bootdisk.com. I have ran fdisk and formated the drive. When i boot from the floopy i type D:/ it says that there is a invalid drive specification. what do i have to do to get my cdrom to work while working off the floopy? Once i get the cdrom support how do i install win 98.
Thanks,
Cooked

-btw-

Its a gateway PII 233 with 256memory 4gig hdd cdrom and floopy.

You will need to get a bootdisk that loads the CDROM device driver (in your config.sys file) and the Microsoft CD Extensions (in your autoexec.bat file).

I'm surprised the bootdisks given to you did not have these drivers enabled. Try another one from that site because I know that they work.

Once you get the CD-ROM working, just go:
D:\
setup

That should work.

Did you get the Windows 98 OEM bootdisk? It has generic CDROM drivers on it to allow you to boot with CDROM support. If so all you need to do is to boot from floppy with CDROM support, place W98 in the CD drive, and type setup at the A:\ prompt.

You can also read the output on the screen after the computer boots from the floppy. One of the last lines should say what letter is assigned to the cd rom. Often it is the letter "R"
