Win XP partition

Hi

I want to create a FAT partition on a laptop that already has the whole drive allocated to the existing XP NTFS partition without losing the current OS?

Is this possible ?

Thanx

it is possible but you will need a 3rd party software and the only one i have seen is partition magic

Send a message via AIM to Vyx
if you have the money i would go ahead and pick up a copy of partition magic because it will do what you want and much more in an easy graphical interface

You can get a copy of Partition Magic 7 for about $30 here:http://ebargainsoftware.com/partitionmagic.html

It's well worth the money. But back up your files first. The trick to using PM is give it as few tasks as possible. Create a Partition and take the space from another. Don't try doing making four partitions, etc at once.

Partition

Thanx a lot , guys

Just to make sure......

So, what you're saying is that I can effectively create a fat32 partition eg 5 gb (afterwards, without losing any current data on my existing OS) on a drive that is already loaded with the ntfs partition.
This will allow me to dual boot between the two OS's as well ?

Try Acronis Partition Perfect 2003. I beta test for them but I haven’t received any information so it may be some time yet before a new version comes out.

PM V8.01 rocks.

dealdealdeal.com used to have PM8 for 22.95, it's gone up to 26.95 (along with $5.50 shipping). Thats where I got it. It's under other in software category. Pretty good compared to ebargain's $47.77.

Partition Magic 7 will do the job. I don't know what the diff between 7 and 8 is. But back your data! PM works good, but sometimes goes goofy!

I repeat. The trick is to go SLOW. Do one thing at a time. Create a partition or remove them one at a time. Everytime I get greedy and have it remove too many partitions at once, it goes bonkers!
