New Hard Drive, Need Help Installing

I just got back from Best Buy with a new Western Digital 7200rpm 120gb hard drive to add to my system.

My System:
Motherboard: Asus A7N8X Deluxe
Processor: AMD Athlon XP Barton 2500+
Hard Drive: WD 120GB 7200RPM
CDRW: Lite-On 52x24x52
DVD ROM: Samsung (not sure of the model)
Memory: PCY (i hate comp usa memory) 1gig PC3200 (512x2)
OS: Win XP Professional Service Pack 1

Setup:
Primary Master: WD 120GB 7200RPM
Primary Slave: Empty
Secondary Master: Lite-On
Secondary Slave: Samsung

Anyway, how would I go about installing this new hard drive? What should I change about my setup? etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.

So is that your second hard drive now? If so, just jumper both drives to "cable select", put the new drive on the slave connector of the primary channel and let 'em rip.

If it's your only hard drive, make sure it's jumpered for "cable select" and at the end of the cable.

I just found out the hard way that it doesn't like to be jumpered for "master" if it's the only drive on the cable: Check out this thread...

hmm, they are both western digital drives.

I think you need to change the existing hard drive's jumper to "master" and then change the new one's jumper to "slave"....or u could try em both on cable select.

And then just put the new drive on the empty spot on the cable.

----

then go into the bios upon booting with the new drive and set the secondary slave to 'auto'....(or sometimes u just hit f3 and it finds everything for you)

----

then I suppose u need to run fdisk and add a partition to the drive.....I dont think it will show up in my computer etc until you partition it.

instead of fdisk you can do it thru disk management I suppose...but I have never done it that way (I am still using w98se mainly, lol)

So... which of all the above suggestions/options did you employ to get your new drive recognized and running?
