Outdoors problem with wireless router

hi everybody, I've been having troubles with my wireless router, it's airplus xtreme g by d-link at 2.4GHz and the problem is that everytime my phone rings it knocks out the whole wireless network. sometimes it comes back right away, sometimes it takes longer and other times i have to restart the router to get back online. i was wondering if it could be happening because of the cordless phones i have in the house (quite a few of them, actually, about 4) or is it the way the router is connected and is there anything i can do to eliminate this interference? if anyone had any hints i'd be grateful because it's driving me crazy, thanx

Yep, its the cordless phones that are doing it. Not much you can do to stop it short of buying new phones that are not 2.4 ghz. Best you can do is to make sure they are as far apart as possible.

I tried the channels thing on both the router and phones at one point, with no changes. But I have heard of it working.

hmm it still puzzles me though, because it didn't use to happen so often before. i changed my router on saturday, took it to the store and they gave me a new one (looks a little different than the old one, it's smaller, but the guy said it was the same thing hmm). with the router i had before it only used to happen occassionally and it helped when i restarted the router. i took it back to the store because the problem with the old one was that my laptop wouldn't pick up the correct ip address until i restarted the router. so now i have a new one and sure enough, more trouble... i wonder if i got a different brand like linksys or something if the problem would still persist?

The problem is that they are both 2.4 ghz. If they both try to talk on 2400.050 (or splatter over) then you will have problems.

Another router may help if it has a more narrow recieve window to help it tolerate nearby signals.

can u specify the kind of router u are using? i don't know why it's happening because it didn't use to happen before, at least not all the time like it's now and it's really annoying especially when u are downloading something and your wireless goes out in the middle of the process grr
