Need help with Quantum fireball

I have built a new machine with a Biostar motherboard P4TGT and I want to add a 10G HDD as a slave. The HDD is a Quantum Fireball EL10.2A. I have removed the jumper on the back of the drive which is supposed to make it a slave. When I install it and go into the BIOS it is shown as a slave however when XP boots up I get a blue stop screen that says the hardware is not configured correctly. I would really like to use this hard drive. I have been using it since 1998 with no trouble.

Hmm.. the drive you mentioned supports up to UDMA2 (33) from what I read. However, your motherboard supports UDMA 133/100/66.

I am not sure if it makes a difference or not... but maybe it is incompatible? (Hopefully I am wrong, though)

Nope, it doesn't make a difference.

Does it bootup fine if you take the ide cable out of the quantum?

I replaced the 40 wire ribbon cable with a 80 wire and it is now working ok. Thanks.
