Kids 64MB or 128MB

Ok...here's the status....i have found my BIOS (coz im new to all this and i only just found out how to get into it)!

i was looking and my AGP arpeature (is that how yu spell it?? ), and it's set to 64MB. Now, i have a 9800Pro... should this arpeature then be set to 128MB as the card is a 128MB card??

here's my system, incase you need it! -
P4 2.53GHz
512MB RAM
SB Audigy LS
9800Pro 128MB

i honestly dont know what my motherboard is, but i think it might be a SiS board?!?! anyway, this board only has 4X AGP, so i was just wondering what i should do, because i saw somewhere that setting my arpeature to 128MB would increase performance.

But please let me know all the facts on this, because i know nothing on this type of thing...

THANKS!

Yeah, set your aperature to 128MB. Don't bother with 256MB as you only have 512MB RAM, if you had like a GB or more I'd go with 256MB.

I have a 9800 pro 256, a GB of PC2100 ram, and an Athlon XP 2100+. What should I set my aperature to (if I can find it...)?

I knew where it was in my old motherboard's BIOS, but I can't seem to find it in my new one. It doesn't give me many options which I don't like very much. It's a Gigabyte 7N400-L. I don't think I've updated the BIOS yet, but I may have (should have).

Thanks

what? see, what does that mean?? updating your BIOS?? before i change this, i need to be told what i should have stuff set to or what i should do first......

BTW my card is a PowerColor 9800Pro, and has no heat sinks (is that what theyre called) on the ram....does this mean that if i higher the aperature it will overheat like overclocking??

thanks for this help BTW

a good rule of thumb with the video apperature size is half of your system ram

EX) running 512mb RAM -> apperature = 256
EX2) 128mb -> 64mb

if you have less than 256mb ram, i would leave the apperature at its default setting in the bios, but having more ram is always good

Smidley, if you press "Ctrl + F1" on the main BIOS screen you will get more options to play with.

Boom-Town-Rrrrat, your NOT gonna break anything. no damage will occur. I'm not exactly sure of what it does, but that's what was recommended for me to do aswell.

The only thing that I've heard of this doing is that it give your video card extra memory (kind of). By setting it to 128MB, you're dedicating that amount of your system memory to your video card, which your video card will resort to using once it has used all of it's own (I think).

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

rrcn: Thanks. I'll try that when I get home.
