Help Configuring

I'm planning to buy a new pc.
I've a few queries to ask.

1)Should i go for P4 2.8HT
or AMD processor with equivalent
speed??I'll use the same configuration
for atleast 5 to 7 years.

2)If I go for the Intel Processor
then are the intel boards the
best option or are there any better
option than that?

3)Which boards should I opt for
in case of AMD processors??
