dvd question

I was talking to a guy who was trying to play a burned dvd on his dvd player. His is a "more expensive one" and the player couldn't read it, but on a cheaper one it could, I didn't have an answer as to why but i'm still curious myself about it, anyone know?

yea its like on my dvd player it will play cd-rw's but my friends wont

Older brand dvd players don't play dvd-+r/w.
Pretty much any noname will.

Newer brand dvd players should play them without a hickup.
