Deice cannot find...free resources.

Hey guys, just did a fresh install of WinXP and when my RAID controller says:

This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

I've never had this problem before. I have 768mb ram.

Can anyone help?

Just a quick thought...

Did your motherboard come with an installation CD?
You may have to run the motherboard setup utility to install drivers specific to your MOBO configuration.

Could be that the XP default drivers aren't quite smart enough.

The 'resources' that your driver is looking for could be an available IRQ (interrupt request line) or DMA channel (direct memory access).

Oops, almost forgot...

Check your BIOS settings for PNP devices. Make sure that resources are configured automatically (not manually). Also check XP's device manager to make sure that automatic configuration is enabled for this device.

If none of these suggestions help, you may have to configure the resources manually, which is a REAL pain.
