What is happening a lot of the time is, many of the forwards are from ISPs or online email servers, ala hotmail etc.. and the images are stripped from the email. I have tried and tried to get the techs at hotmail to tell me why it does this, but they will not say. I suspect if I were to pay the $19 bucks for a full service, I would not have that problem.

The other reason that comes to mind right now is...many emails with images attached that are/were found on the web..are copied/pasted into the email. Those images reside at the website..and can only be viewed if you remain online as you are looking at the images..once you go offline, the images will not be displayed only the "box" with the red X

I have a good friend who only has Juno free email...she gets a bunch of these web based image emails..but she is not online, so she cannot see the pictures...she has found that if she forwards the email to me..I can "fix" it so she can view the pictures...(grrrrrr). When I receive the email..I am online...so..the images show up. Now, in order for her to see them,, I have to save each image to my hard drive..click her mail into reply, and add the actual image into her email..send it back..now...it actually has the images inserted/attached, so she can view them...

there was an ad on the radio recently where a customer of dial-up was wondering how the advertisers could make any money by having their ads be just red "x's" his friend said "well if you had Comcast Digital Cable, you would be able to see that those "x's" are actually pictures!

I hope my mom hears that ad, so we'll get cable modems. I'm sick of dial-up!

LOL!!!, If the images have been stripped from the email..no cable connect will put them back!

You open to a suggestion?...Just how bad do you really want cable connect?...just how sick are you actually of dialup?

Cable connect costs twice as much here at my location as dialup...maybe the purse strings are already stretched at your house.

Try offering to clear the table after supper each night, wash-dry any dishes, pots `n pans etc. and put them away where they belong..all of this in return for going to cable connect...deal?

yeah after my 'rents paying for both my sister and I to go to college for 4 years, and my 1 yr master's degree program, my rents are looking forward to retirement...and they're scaling back on expenses. my best bet is to move out, get a job, and pay for it myself, lol. I kinda just wish we had cable so I could surf AND listen to streaming music at the SAME time.

alas...one day soon I'll have a job.

yeah, and I know all about those red x's...back in junior high, when all porn sites were free (internet commerce wasn't in the picture yet, no pun intended), we'd spend hours in the computer lab after school surfin...but most the pictures weren't visible because of web traffic. that was back in 1993-1995. we used CompuServe and AOL dial-up at my school.

GET A JOB!

advice to all of you out there who are/want to be Communication Majors...switch to something more specific so that when you graduate you'll have an idea what you want to do with your life! lol
