Gettin' rid of kazaa

I have such a huge mess right now. I have been trying to get rid of kazaa lite. After reading the board here I'm a bit relieved to see that I am not the only one losing their mind regarding ridding my computer of kazaa. I did download some wonderful songs. But, I want it off my computer. The bad thing is now that I've tried everything in my power to rid myself of kazaa, none of my songs will play in Windows Media Player.

I don't want to lose my library of music. I've tried everything I think I could.

Whatever help ya'll can send my way would be fantastic!

If I posted wrong or did something differently than I'm supposed to, I apologize.

Oh, and I did try and delete my shared folder. That's the problem that keeps my music here or disappear, right?

Thanks.

Wow, what did you do? Were you poking around in the registry or something?

-Get your songs out of the Kazaa folder
-Uninstall Kazaa
-Delete the Kazaa folder
-Empty the recycle bin
-Run some of these programs. Spybot and Ad-aware are the most popular.
-Run a registry cleaning program. TuneUp Utilities is my favourite program but it's not free; here is a list of free registry cleaning programs.

Where were your songs saved? I hope they weren't in a folder within Kazza.. cuz you might have just gotten rid of them all.

If you have the actual MP3's.. then I would take a few that you know you can't play in WM Player over to a friends house.. and see if he/she can play them.

Throughout these P2P sites their are files out there that will screw up every MP3 you have on your system. .. lets hope thats not the case with you.

ShawnD1,
Thanks. I'm sure I did something idiotic yes. <sigh> I think I do have my music out of the kazaa folder. Next I will continue to try uninstalling kazaa. I will then delete the kazaa folder. Empty the recycle bin. Ad-aware just finished up scanning. And, now I am going to check out your link to free registry cleaning programs.

I appreciate your help. Thank you, kindly! Landslide

Getttin' rid of Kazaa

Wishmaster,
Yes, wmp is the default player. What does that mean? Help, help! I know an eency weency bit about computers. Please reply to me because I'm curious to see what the answer it is. The way you presented it made it sound like that it was something so simple as that? I hope it is!! Thanks a lot. I will be awaiting your reply.

Do a search of your HDD with " *.mp3, *.wma " entered in the search for line, and direct it to search your HDD ( C, or C & D, etc.).

This will tell you if and where the bashful music files are. You may need to right click the background of the search window and change the view to Details to show the path.

Also, wmp is just the Windows Media Player, and you can set it to be your "default" player for opening music files, or the player your computer always uses to play mp3s.

Wish is making a joke that'll take around 6 to 60 months for you to get, depending on how involved you get in the tech side of computing!

EDIT: You may want to install a different media player; this is the one I use, as it's less intrusive on your system privacy. Just open it up and drag an mp3 to it.

Gettin' rid of Kazaa

Left Coast,
Thanks! There was 634 music files. I have more than that and I think I know what folder they're in. These songs were found in

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents

Thanks so much for your help. What a blessing to stumble across this site and all of you are so helpful.

It's such a beautiful day here in Alaska! Friday we had a heckuva lot of snow comin' down. No place like Alaska!

If any of you can think of any other helps I will be most thankful.

Is Kazaa deleted from your computer now? If not, take those songs, make a new folder for them, and put them in there. You dont want them in the shared folder when you delete Kazaa or else you lose em.
