Systems close lid on the laptom n when I open it the screen is black

hello guys

I have a little problem. Every time I'm leavin my laptop on (downloading something or just leave it idle), when I come back later on the screen is black and doesnt react when I move with the mouse or press any key on my keyboard.

I set up the lid so it doesnt go to stand-by or anything like that hmmm if I leave it closed for short period of time when I open it up .. comes back no problem but after few hours sometimes 20 minutes .. the screen is black but still the music of the net is playing and everything.

Any sugestions what could be the problem ?

thanks

What laptop is it? Are you using the default load of the operating system that came with the laptop?

It sounds like (if its Windows) its not coming out of sleep mode properly.l

laptop

its inspiron 5150 3.06 GHZ P4 512 ram WIN XP PRO + ALL UPDATES

the thing is that it cant go to sleep when I'm downloading 15 files and its playin music at the same time.

Thats why I went to settings and set the option "when I close the lid" - " do nothing"

so it should be running no problem.

when I dont close the lid its ok and never does that but when I close it and come back after some time its playing the music and still downloading the files but the screen is black

any ideas ?

Hmm.... I have an older Toshiba laptop that does the same thing, so I set it to do nothing when the lid is closed. I never could figure out what the heck was causing it.

Did you make sure you have the "power saving utilities" installed on the machine?

I am wondering because when you get a laptop it usually comes with some type of system power saving utils that are unique with the laptop. I just got a IBM X Laptop and it has software for the power saving features on the motherboard. This goes beyond what Microsoft's XP has in it.

So i would search out the drivers and/or software on their support website to see if there is other software you need to install to properly manage the power saving features of your laptop.

Make sence?

yeah all the power saving utilities r in the laptop. There are 2 options of settings
1: if the laptop is pluged in the electrical outlet / the monitor + screen saver n all those settings r set on max

2: if the laptop is on battery power / screen saver + monitor off n sleep mode kicks in sooner.

device manager shows everything installed as well as the dell support website

so the laptop is hooked on electrical outlet and "closed lid" option is set to " do nothing "

it shouldnt even go to sleep I think ...

I hope I make at least half of the sence like u did

Kids screen saver

hmm no I didnt disable screen saver hmm u think that can be the problem ??

I thought that when I close my lid - the monitor goes off ?

I will try to disable screen saver before I close the lid and see if that will help
