hello

i have a friend hoo is gonna upgrade his cpu to a 3200+ (400fsb)

his mobo supports pc 2100, pc2700 and pc 3200, but he thinks if he uses pc2100 (266 mhz) with the 3200+ his ram will be overclocked and fry. I've told him that i don't think that the memory bus and the cpu fsb are connected in that way and that wotever ram he uses with the 3200+ will work prefectly well at is own speed, but he duzzint believe me.

any thoughts or links that show the relationship or lack of pone between the memory fsb and the cpu fsb would be appreciated.

well first of all it would not fry it just mabey wouldnt boot or be unstable

but yes they are connected and should be running at the same speed although it is possible to run them in different speeds on most motherboards but i would upgrade it later if its possible

depends on the motherboard...whether or not it has independent settings for the ram etc.

I would think it would.

What is the motherboard make and model??

its an asus mobo, quite new but thats all i know.

in the past, i've run pc2100 with a p4 2ghz(400fsb) with no problems at all. and now i have asus k8v deluxe 800fsb, a643000+ (200fsb), and pc 3200(400mhz)......again no problems beeps or crashes.

is that wot u mean JP by independent settings? wer all these differently rated bits combine with no ill effects?

accually the p4 400 fsb is 100 quad pumped and the pc2100 is 133 double pumped the 3200 is a 200mhz bus double pumped so it is faster than the memory speed
