modem problem

Hi,

My isp is aol, but had some spyware and adware on my computer that I deleted and since then I can't connect online anymore.

I tried uninstalling aol but it did not work, the modem makes a loud noise when communicating with the access servers.

Since the problem I was able to connect once and thought the problem was over but one I logged off and logged back in later I had the same problem again.

I installed a spywear and adwear along with my norton anti virus
to make sure no viruses were still on my system .

What can I do ....

get rid of AOL.
use Netzero or another ISP like PeoplePC... you will be paying less and have the same kind of access to the internet. Most people dont need all that junk AOL has. The money you save by going to netzero you can save up to then get DSL or something else. Also, Netzero's dialer mutes your modem while connecting.

what virus did you have? are you positive that it is gone off your system? search for the virus on SARC...

I have never had a problem with Ad-Aware or Spybot S&D removing things that I needed... but I do have DSL and not AOL dialup.

what spyware/adware protection are you using? some are bad and install adware themselves.
