NTLDR is missing

I was recently running a dual boot system with Windows XP and Redhat 9 on my main hard drive (80 gbyte Western Digital). I also had a backup hard drive running in the slave mode (120 gbyte Maxtor 6Y12090). About three months ago my master hard drive started making loud pitched squeaky noises and finally crashed two days ago. So I went out and bought a new Maxtor hard drive (exactly like the one mentioned above) and installed it as the master, ensuring the proper jumper settings for both the master and the slave (also ensuring that the ATA cable was securely fasted to both the hard drives along with the motherboard). During the installation I used the Maxtor CD (as recommended) to automatically setup my hard drive for Windows XP use only. However, after I completed the installation and tried to install my Windows XP; I got a message that my NTLDR is missing and to Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. I have gone into the BIOS under the standard CMOS Features and both hard drives are recognized as the Primary Master and Primary slave. I have also gone into the Advanced BIOS Features and changed the boot sequence to ensure that the CDROM boots first. However, to no avail, I am still getting the NTLDR is missing message. Any suggestions?
