major issues with Mandrake 10
I have a system with Win98 and WinXP running dual boot. If I install Mandrake, the Lilo boot loader shows an entry for windows, but going to that simply shows a black screen with a blinking _. The win98 and xp partitions are still there, as I can see them in Mandrake.
The system I use it on is in a college class (removable HD), so I have access to the internet through the LAN. If I try to use the update thing on the configuration menu, it gets to where I select a ftp. Once I select one I get an error about a hdlist or something like that missing from the server. I have accessed ftp's in class so they aren't blocked.

I really like Mandrake but the boot loader problem is preventing me from installing it without messing up 98 and XP, which I need for class. The problem seems to be with the bootloader for 98 and xp that should appear when I select windows in Lilo.
I see that the official version of Mandrake 10 is out I wonder if that might correct either of these problems.

You have to boot with CD 2 and then you'll be prompted for CD 1.

Ok, LILO should have no problem booting windows 98 or XP assuming you set it up correctly. Are you getting the blinking cursor only after selecting the windows partitions? How are they set up in your lilo.conf file?
The reason you are getting those errors on the FTP servers, about not being able to retrieve hdlist is that they arebusy and overloaded due to everyone accessing them to download 10.0 official and update. Just wait a week or so until they are back to normal load and use them then.

I had a problem getting things installed, was a APIC and LAPIC problem. Pass acpi=off noapic nolapic options when booting. That should fix the hard locks on I/O transfers.
