Outlook 2002 won't start, Outlook Express acting weird

Hello everyone,

I have a client who uses Outlook for all his email, version 2002 (XP) on a Windows XP Pro system. Just a couple days ago he called saying that Outlook won't work. It gives him the "do you wanna start outlook in safe mode" prompt, which he chooses yes to. It won't even start in safe mode, it just ends task and then asks if he wants to restart outlook again.

Outlook express has the same problem pretty much, it won't start sometimes and when you do get it started it handles the emails very weirdly. Like when you view one email and then delete it, it'll delete like 10-15 at a time.

This guy does alot of email every day, so it's very important that I get this back up and running, anything you can do to help me out will be greatly appreciated!

TIA.

-Chris

I would create a clean user and see if it experiences the same problems. If the new user works ok I would backup anything important and blitz the profile of the broken account.

Tried opening outlook on a different user account and it had the same problem. MyDoom is apparently still lurking around in the system, but it's under control for the most part.

Any suggestions?

Did you run all the Windows Office Updates for the computer?

if not you can run it at www.microsoft.com/office and then do the downloads and updates... see if that helps.

If could also be a corrupt .pst file.. but probably not if they can't run a new profile on the system.. have you tried to do a reinstall/repair of Office (or Outlook)?

I was going to do that next. Just kinda hard since they live about 30min away and they don't have a CD. Looks like I'll just have to make the trip.

Thanks!
