Outdoors Problems with 5600 FX

I have an Nvidia Geforce 4 5600 FX graphics card. I used my computer and it ran all my games PERFECTLY until a few days ago. I'm playing ,for example Call of Duty, and itll be just fine. Than ill see purple dots in areas and than the backround dies out and all i see is the outline of my gun. The same thing happenes with all my other games that use the card. Can anyone help me? Someone told me chuck the card and get a new one but ive only had it fora 6 months! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Have you overclocked? It sounds fried.

Before taking any drastic measures, try these methods:

1. Make sure the fan on the card works.

2. Uninstall the drivers, shut down 'puter, pull out the card, check for physical damage, put the card back in, turn on 'puter, reinstall latest drivers.

If it works fine except while playing games, then I would think that it's getting too hot. If the fan does indeed work, try other cooling methods combined with the fan. That could be cheaper in the long run than buying a new card.

Hope that helps!

Good luck on the new card. I just got my *replacement* Asus 9800 Pro 256 yesterday and it works great! Not like the first one I got, though (thank god)...
