WD hard drive error

I booted into a Western Digital boot diagnosis disk and ran the quick test and got no errors - but when I ran the extended test for the media test I got an error.

What exactly could this mean? What does the term "media" refer to here? Is this a hardware issue or a software issue?

Anyhow I did this because I cannot sucessfully boot into Windows XP anymore so I am trying to see what is up....

Also when I run chkdsk c: /p/r
(in recovery console)

I first notice it doesn't ask for any admin password and goes straight to the c: prompt. Well anyhow, I start the chkdsk and it gets up to about 25% and tells me this:

The volume appears to contain one or more unrevoverable problems.


Any ideas??
