Welcome to TIMO

What's your other hardware? (motherboard, etc...)

Did you set the right jumpers on the hard drive? That happens to me if the jumpers aren't set right. (I have a Western Digital 160 Gb)

I'm assuming you're making your WD 40Gb your master drive?

Is this going to be the only hard drive?

I have only one drive used so the jumper is set to CS (cable select) and I have it connected to the very end of the IDE cable.

Normally, I'd set the jumper to Master but my motherboard likes CS better.

If your cables are connected correctly (try all the possible connections) and the jumpers are set right, it may be a motherboard issue.

Ok, so:

1.)Set jumper to master

2.) and connect ide cable (I like using the one on the very end for masters but it doesn't matter as far as I know, someone correct me if I'm wrong please)

3.) don't forget power too

if that don't work, try CS

check and make sure you arn't reading the chart upside down also make sure there is not a single setting sometimes if it has single it needs a slave to be the master i have had that happen to me a few times but thats mostly older drives

also you might try a different cable
