Systems Enable SDRAM on Motherboard???

Ive got a v old machine from work, a 133mhz athlon machine, dont know board but its got 4 SIMM slots and one Dimm.

Bought a 128 stick, took out Simms and , with or without them it doesnt recognise it or any other stick I put in?!

How do I enable this section of the motherboard.

Thanks

That dimm slot is for a 168pin EDO ram module. On some mobos with that slot you can put in PCxxx module and get only 1/4 the ram. Also you may have a jumper to change voltages between the simms and the dimm. Use your mobo's ID and find a manual online but if you get it to work you'll see only 32meg out of that 128.

You must be confused. Your board cannot be an Athlon board and have simm slots. May be an old Pentium 133mhz machine with those type slots. Some of these older boards have a voltage jumper for the dimm, 3.3 or 5 volts. Or it may not recognize a 128mb dimm, to big. Some require the old PC66 dimm. When this board was made 128mb dimms didn't exist. 16mb and 32mb dimms were available then.

Misc Almost...

Thanks, think ive found the jumpers, where would I locate the Id?

You are bang on bowt that 32 meg business, but that only appears when ive got sum simms in? (this was previously trien with a stick of 34 in, but I dont think it even picked that up, just the simms.)

Regards

Mark

What is that 128 stick you bought? Pc100? Pc133?

Usually you can find the mobo's model no. between the isa/pci slots and the revision no. by the keyboard plug. If you didn't have any luck there then fire up the computer and copy the bottom string of numbers/letters on the startup screen. Go to www.motherboards.org and use that string to ID the mobo.

By the way, you may not find support for that mobo as it is pretty obsolete.

It may not support an SDRAM module that big. It may only support a PC64 SDRAM module. The SIMMs have to be used in matched pairs.
