When do you guys perform backups and why

hello all..

I am the sys admin here and just wanted to know from other users when you perform backups and why? I am managing about 500 users that use our win 2003 server which is about 340 gb but only 25% of it is being used. We are a 24 hour unit with about 75% of the users using the server during regular hours (0600-1800). Right now i am doing full backups at 0700 in the am. which takes about 45 minutes to run. So far the backup process has not caused any slowness in the network. I do it at this time instead of midnite since it will backup the previous nites work.

Just wanted to know when you perform your backups and why?

I too run a Win2k3 server. I back it up at around 4am EST every night. I find that's when there's the lowest activity on the server. Waay to late for the East Coast crowd, and most of the West Coast is in bed as well.

Check some of your activity logs. Find the time that's the quietest, and go with that. There is no "perfect solution."
