"should not see me"

oK, so here's the deal. I had to format my hard drive and start from zero. Everything runs smoothly until I had to start installing drivers and all. What happens is after installing some drivers it asks me to restart. I check the box 'restart now' and Windows starts to close all its processes and applications. But there seems to be one program that doesnt close correctly. And you know that window that pops up when Windows is closing an application? Like if explorer.exe is giving problems or hangs? Well, that window popped up twice for me after installing some drivers. The thing is the application that seems to be hanging or not being able to be closed is called "should not see me" What is this? I got scared the first time I saw it because I thought it was a trojan or a virus imediately. Is this just a Windows application? I've never seen this before. The thing is it showed up for me even when I didnt have an internet connection because the driver for the port wasn't installed yet. Has anyone seen this? Anyone knows what this is? I am having a hard time believing its just a Windows application because the name of it is weird. To me it sounds like a trojan or something. Any ideas?

Me too!

This has happened to me also! Infact, every time I reformat and put on my drivers! I can't recall which driver it happened with, but it brings up the window that is will close it in xx seconds if you dont press end now in the corner.

Hmmm

Exactly, Windows is able to close the application so I dont have time to take a screenshot of the window that appeared to me after installing the drivers. Creepy..

Apparently after doing some search on the net I found out that this is fixed by updating the Windows Installer and that it is a Windows Application after all. Its official, which I think is a bit weird considering the name of it. I am still not sure, since this information is taken from another forum, but apparently its the answer to this mysterious application.

I sound like a broken record.

Did you wipe the HDD (with zeros; Killdisk) before you formatted/reinstalled, because if you didn't, you may not have "start(ed) from zero."

It's wise to write zeros before any fresh install (unless HDD is brand new) because viruses and corrupted windows files can be reinstalled upon the next "fresh" OS install.

not to go off topic, but when i use killdisk real soon from now, will uninstalling all of your programs, formatting D then using killdisk make the process go any faster? (40GB WD 8MB Cache)

If you're gonna use killdisk, just run it. It'll blast partitions, everything.

It writes zeros to the entire drive, so if you're asking should you "prep" the drive to expedite the zero-writing process, the answer would be no.

You spoke of formatting D: does this mean you have a C drive you are not going to write zeros to? Or do you just have the one 40 gig drive...

In my experience, using the app to wipe a storage drive while leaving the boot drive intact is all but useless. The viruses/corrupted win files reside in the boot drive usually.

i have C: 5GB and D: 35GB. yes i wanted to format D:, in windows, hoping to just have killdisk write zeros quicker to the entire drive. i will still write zeros to the C: drive and D: drive, and then reinstall Win2K, formattin, then partitioning in the setup.

Formatting simply deletes the file system, leaving all your files intact. This is how undelete progs work, by renaming all remaining files in a different (new) file system.

Killdisk is gonna write zeros whether the sector is empty or not.

In WIN2K (during set-up), you can just specify how large to make the C drive and select to install there, then just format the D using Control panel\administrative tools\computer management\disk management (after install is completed).
