Overheating issue

I have a P4 w/ Intel D865 Perl Mobo, and a thermaltake box. I am getting 45 degrees Celcius consistently while doing normal activity (MS Words, Email, etc...). Gaming however the temp goes up to 65 degrees so far from what I have seen. I just reset the CPU, and got a new fan "AeroCool Ext" as well as applied some good ol' grease. Temps are the same. The case temp is 30 degrees Celsius. Any thoughts on this?

Those are pretty warm temps. Are you running a Prescott? Is the HS fan blowing in the correct direction? Is it running at rated speed? What type, and how much "good ol' grease" did you apply? What are your case temps when you are gaming (e.g., does the vid card put out so much heat that case temps go up, resulting in higher CPU temps)?

I am using the fx5200 video card 128MB, and the case temps are the same. I am going to get a monster of a heatsink/fan today and see if that does not help. I had a friend over last night "skit" and he was not impressed with the heatsink/fan which I bought, and neither was I. So perhaps that is the problem. I will post a reply to that this afternoon. The fan was also running a bit slow 2200, which I did not bother trying to fix. I applied a good amount of grease, that filled up evenly the processor.

I just replaced the fan/heatsink and am still getting those temperatures. Could it be a bad Processor even though I am going through POST?

Prescott is code name for the "Extreme Edition" chip.
If your not sure look on the box you processor came in.
It would read 3.0E or whatever you have.
Just look for the "E"

Or CPUZ http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
Will tell you your core name.

Yes it is a Prescott 2.4GHz. Any ideas? I am about to replace the Processor tonight if needed.

I just ran Memtest and it seemed that the Processor temperature was ok throughout that test, as well the memory passed fine. Is there any 3rd party apps that test the performance and capability of the video card? I used 3dmark to test, but I wanted to see if there was any problems with my card itself in performing in games, ect.
