Invalid Page Fault running SFC

When trying to run the System File Checker program on a machine running Win98SE, the following error message is displayed:

"SFC.EXE caused an invalid page fault in module KRNL386.dll..."

Has anyone experienced this error and can offer me some way to fix this situation?

Help somebody... Please!!!!

A search of Google proved fruitless.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried manually repairing SFC by extracting the file from the original Windows cab archives?

Open 46.cab (Win98SE) or 42.cab (Win98 original) from the Windows setup CD with Windows Explorer. Locate sfc.exe and copy it to the C:\window\system directory. Reboot, then trying running the utility again.
