Have u ever created restore point? It’s in start/programs/accessories/systemTools/systemRestore

I use that quiet often and its working no problem for me
I also recommend Norton ghost I had really good experience with this restore program

restore points are created every 24 hrs of operation and any time software is added or removed, plus other specified times.
you must have restore points enabled, if this is the case, then restoreing the system to a earlear date in not a problem.

I'd just re-install and save my present stuff on the hard drive. Myself, I have ALL my XP boxes with Sys restore disabled.

ok, you should write down all your bios settings, any passwords and id codes pertainning to any special software, also any serial numbers that might be required for reinstall, all your e-mail address and any other settings you can think of,

it might be easer to fix the problem than go through all that much trouble.

you could restore to the last known date that it was known to be running good.

If this is something that you want to regularly do, this is the process that I use.

My setup includes workstations and a server.
On my PC that I regularly use, I have two internal HDs. The 2nd one is just for backup.

I Ghost the primary drive to an image on the secondary drive every month. If I need to go back to a previous version, it's easy.

This process has saved me several times when the system got corrupted. I was back with all my installed software and settings.
