connecting to a friends computer

I want to connect to a friends computer. We are both on aol dial up and running winxp. What is the easiest way for me to log onto his computer and use his programs as they were mine?

Also, he is about 40 miles away

Thanks
Naz

Mike is right, forget it. Those remote control programs like the one built into Windows and VNC take a lot of bandwidth. To use them, both parties need to be able to support at least 15kB/s of data transfer at all times.

Fourty miles away? Even if you decide to use a fibre optic cable won't reach that far.
I really can't think of any possible solution on this matter. Its just too overwhelmed and my head just can't accept the possible!
