Can I setup a network like this?
Ok, today I'm getting my new PC and wanted to hook it up with my Imac. Both computers are gonna be side by side on the same desk. I want to be able to share files, internet, and play Warcraft 3 if a friend is over. I do have a switch, but have read everywhere I would need a router to share internet connections. Instead of buying a router can I do this:
Put 2 network cards in the PC
Have my internet (Roadrunner) go to my PC (using one of the network cards)
Then use a crossover cable from my PC (2nd card) to the Imac
Will this work? Thanks.

yes I think it can be done that way as long as you have the correct protocalls and settings

I know that I am supposed to know, but I have never even seen a mac,
thinking that it sets up about the same as a (normal) system, and uses ipx/spx and tcp/ip protocals, also it will assign a host id for connections, and that the nic should still work the same, but seams somethings missing and I can't think of it right now.

You need a proxy server running on the PC, then when you set up TCP/IP on the MAC, put in the PC's LAN IP as proxy address and it should work!
AnalogX.com make a great little free proxy server app. Try that one.
Cheers

Well I tried last night but couldn't get it going. I'm thinking I should just get a router. Sounds like that would be alot eaiser. My uncle tried using a crossover cable a while back with 2 PC's and it didn't work right. He then bought a router and it worked perfectly. Thanks for everyones help.
