DDR RAM: PC2100 vs PC2700

One quick question for you guys:

Which would be a better choice?

2 GB DDR PC2100

OR

1 GB DDR PC2700

I know that PC2700 RAM is faster than PC2100; I also know that 2 GB is better than 1 GB. So, which choice would be better: more and slower, or less and faster? On a sidenote, what does each case imply (why would I want more and slower; why would I want less and faster)?

Thanks for all the help.

Jonathan

well....we are talking about huge amounts of ram here....I dont know that 2g would show any difference at all over 1g except maybe in certain outlandish conditions.

What applications are you going to run that will even use the 1g???

Unless you have a very specific application in mind that uses 2g of ram I would cast my vote for the 1g of PC2700..and make sure the bios is set to run it at the proper speed so as to get the speed benefit from it

---

now, if we were talking about the difference between256 of pc2700 and 512 od pc2100..then Id say go with the 512 of slower ram....because that will keep your computer from having to use virtual ram which is way slower than the pc2100.

---

between 512 of pc2700 and 1g of pc2100...I am not sure there...depends on the usage....for me I think Id go with the 512 of pc2700..because I am not going to be using apps that take over 512m of ram in any case....so if I am only ever using, say, 350m of the ram, I may as well be using the pc2700

2gb means you can have more info in the memory, which should help performance. on the other hand, DDR2700 has 600 megabytes more bandwidth. I'd say it depends on what types of applications/games you will be running. Something like photoshop or movie editing would love to eat the extra memory.
