a question about installing a window..it's a bit more complex

Hey everyone. I'm currently working on my 2nd puter build and decided to do the modding myself. picked up an enlight case from newegg. I've pulled it all apart and cut holes for a custom window. it's a moon and a few stars. I'm not sure what options I have for installing the window though. The prefab case I'm using now seems to be just an acrylic plate with small plastic nubs on the backside for screw to hold it in place.

My question.. does anyone know anywhere you can get one of those type of window kits? I haven't seen any online as yet. or am i stuck going to the hardware store and jimmyin this thing myself??

there are all kinds of kits available....have you looked at svc and places like that?

ahh, but you already cut the custom holes yourself..I see.

When I did a window I just used a bonding agent...I think it was construction glue or something...but u can simply use silicone caulk.

The hard part will be smoothing the edges of the custom holes....what have you decided to do there?? I just did a square hole and trimmed it with some trim material...sort of jimmy-rigged.

here is the guide I sort of followed http://metku.net/index.html?sect=vie...ndow/index_eng

one mistake I made...go lightttttttttttt on the adhesive cuz it only takes a tiny bit....I did too much and it glooped all up and looks really gay and unprofessional from the inside

here's a pic of what I've got done so far. I cut using a dremel. I'm still not satisfied with the smoothness of the overall look. I've thought about a small molding but I'm not sure how easy it'd be with the smaller stars I have cut.

Here's a closer pic.

eventually I will paint the case.. I'm going for a purplish-blue violet color... using montana spray paint and an auto clear coat finish. I also plan to attach a black handle to the top of the case so it's easier to carry. on that note I do think the case is thick enough to keep the handle from breaking through, but just to be safe I figure I'll insert a plate on the inside to more evenly distribute the weight the handle will be carrying.

I'm building this one for a friend of mine, a girl. I do think it'll look pretty nice when it's all done. a nice deep violet color contrasted by black drives and a couple lights on the inside... not sure if I'll go blue or purple or UV, but probably blue or UV depending on what looks nicer.

The one thing that still bugs me is the cut out. It's not perfect; I've been sanding and shaping it trying to get it to look better. I think a molding would clean it up very nicely but again the smallest star I have cut out is no more than an inch across. I'll have to think about that one. Maybe it'll look better with the paint. hmm. any thoughts?

the molding is the hard part....but it will smooth out the cuts...so dont worry too much about the smoothness of the cuts because the molding cleans that up nicely....maybe u need some really small molding for the small stars

yeah maybe some small black tubing, much like what was used in the link you provided. As for the handle I'd love to have it collapsible so the top of the case could remain flat, but that's just too much work for me

The puter itself i think will be a budget box. here's what I'll have in it if anyone's interested..

~Soyo SY-K7VME mobo
~512MB Kingston 2700 value ram
~20GB Maxtor &
~80GB WD HDD
~Athlon 2500 -2800 barton, depends on budget
~some kinda sound card, not sure yet (pretty basic though, primarily music)
~NEC 2500 8x DVDRW
~3.5" floppy/media card reader
~ATI all in wonder 7500 or a refurb 8500dv or 9000

I think that's it I really like the dual HDD's I use that now on my puter.. put the OS on the small HDD along with programs and use the larger drive for storing important files, music, videos and pics. THe sound card is something I'll need to do a little research on, but I'll probably pick up a santa cruz or fortissimo, pretty good cheapie cards. And the vid card I'm not decided on yet but I know she won't be using it for games or anything so I assume a 7500 will do. Haven't decided on speakers as yet, but I'm looking at the JBL creatures or some other compact 2.1 setup.
