Linux for Windows

(CoLinux, a version of Linux that runs natively under Win2K/XP, is available as a 0.6 download from SourceForge.)

Hmm. Interesting idea. Looks like a Linux emulator for Windows. I'd bet the speed isn't there, but it does lower the barrier for running Linux apps on your Windows PC...

If you read a bit you will see that it runs natively (no emulation) under windows. The actualy performance loss according to them is negligible.

Then of course you could also try these other methods if you don't want to install anything at all.....

knoppix or one of many other run from cd versions of linux.....

and there is also workspot.com (slow since it's all via internet... but does work) (basically mandrake 9.1 via the internet.. pretty cool)

Linux run "natively" under windows just sounds BAD

SuSE has a nice LiveEval CD, which doesn't require hdrive partitioning, just walk thru their installer and in less than ten mins you're in Linux w/ GNOME. They have a DVD player, MP3 player, and lotsa other nice stuf. The installer is very polished and compares favorably to what MSOFT uses.

Yeah, I have to wonder, when (not if) windows crashes, will it take down linux with it?

Negative. You boot into a native Linux environment from the CD. All one has to do is to set his/her BIOS to boot from the CD-ROM, as the primary drive....Jet

He wasnt talking about the live cds. He was talking about running linux under windows.
If you're running a live cd you arent in windows at all so theres no way for it to crash and take down linux with it.
He was wanting to know when you are running linux in windows as per the article when it crashes does linux go down as well.

yeah the point of linux isn't to run apps its to get away from bugs but if your running it under windows thats still there

its like if you were in the forest and saw a bear if you throw a blanket over his head he can still eat you and it will probobally just make him madder
