i'm stumped...
not sure about this one. the computer i'm working on today seems to be having a power issue.
it shuts down by itself. first, the monitor goes black (almost as if the video cord was yanked out of the back of the computer), but the lights on the computer stay on. then, the lights on the cd-rom drives start blinking for about a minute, and then the whole computer just shuts off (the leds on the keyboard stay ON however). to get computer back up and running, i hafta turn the power supply switch off for a couple of minutes, then back on, and then the computer automaticaly starts up again.
sometimes this shut down happens right away. other times, i can boot just fine into either linux or windows xp, and use it for a while without a problem and then it will shut down.
i am suspecting one of two things...either the power supply itself...or...the video card...because it seems that this video card's fan has stopped spinning. so my question is...
if the video card fan stops spinning (causing the card to get too hot), would it cause a problem like this?
thanks!
