Security Update CD. Big Woop.

After anxiously waiting for my Windows Update CD to arrive, it finally comes in the mail today and I just finished running it. Much to my dismay (surprise?), I have ALL of the available updates already installed. The free firewall and anti virus software is kinda cool, but I already have those too.

I must be lucky I guess.

I got mine a few days ago and it really went to work. Since I'm not running windows updates it installed lots of stuff. All the securities I needed plus it upgraded the media player and directx. I ran this cd on my sis's win2k it installed sp4 and a security file. I got a good deal out of it. I didn't bother with the trialware cd.

AR, the CD is actually behind with updates already, AFAIK.

Then again, if you are on dial-up or off the net altogether, it can be really handy. And to upgrade folks' OS reinstalls to the latest security level without connecting to the net (and risking it until it updates ) is a great idea.

Hopefully M$ will have bi-annual security update CD's or something, otherwise it will be real useless real quick.

Cheers
Mick

I think the biggest benefit is that, should you find the need to reinstall, it saves a heck of a lot of time downloading all the critical updates.

Well, the CD will come handy when you have to format and install Windows again, then you dont need to download all those updates from Windows Update. Will save you some time. Also I am using the Antivirus it came with (the firewall is crap) and its a nice program, will stick with it for a while I think.

anyone else try to run the virus software that came with it, only to have it say you have to uninstall norton first? was there away around that or does it cause a conflict?
