dual boot (PROBLEMS)windows xp and windows 98

Hello i recently set my laptop up to dual boot either xp or 98
the laptop is a dell inspiron 2650 pentium 4
everything went fine with xp but 98 has many problems needing drivers for things i didnt know existed!
When 98 boots up in the black screen the following problems are shown:the following files are missing:
vredir.vxd
dfs.vkd
vnetbios.vkd
ndiswan.vxd
after htting continue as 98 begins to come up ypou get this one as well:
unable to load dynamic link library
msnp32.dll
.................................................. .............................................
When i go to my computer device manager i have the yellow marks here:intel 82801 cam ultra ata storage controller 248a
interent connection sharing
intel 82801 bam/cam pci ridge 2448
intel 845 chipset processor to agp controller 1a31
other devices
pci card
pci multi media audio device
.................................................. .................................................
The next major problem is it doesnt seem to realize it has a cd drive! When you boot in xp it does!
The drive is the dell built in teac drive there website says you dont need any drivers for it!That windows has drivers for it!I physically removed the drive and reinstalled it hoping then it might detect it but it didnt!
Is there a way to reinstall or maybe repair the 98 installation??
Or is that my problem?
CAN YOU TELL IM FRUSTRATED?
I NEED LOTS OF HELP!
THANKS
ALLSMILES

ok, you need motherboard drivers for the W98 install..thats why its showing all those things

intel 82801 bam/cam pci ridge 2448
intel 845 chipset processor to agp controller 1a31
other devices
---

I think that is why the cdrom is not showing up...because the primary controller isnt showing up perhaps..cuz of needed motherboard drivers.

------

all those ---->
vredir.vxd
dfs.vkd
vnetbios.vkd
ndiswan.vxd
are networking things...I have seen it many times...I cant remember the exact fix but its something like going to control panel/networking then remove "client for microsoft networks"...and/or set "microsoft family logon" as the primary network logon

and then if some of that stuff still shows up..run "regedit"..search for those things and delete them

go to dells site.... here http://support.dell.com/filelib/criteria.aspx?c=us I have already selected your 2650 model..you just click the drop down menu and see what drivers u can find..choose "win98" etc

For instance here is the chipset (motherboard) driver below

http://support.dell.com/FileLib/Type...&DeviceID=1134

you went to the first link I gave??

It plainly says "audio drivers", lol

u need at least

''chipset drivers
audio drivers
communication drivers (for your modem...go to the xp install and see what brand the modem is in dev manager...then pick the right driver cuz there are 2 to choose from)
Network drivers --nic

---

what u need to do is make a folder for the drivers...name it "dell drivers" then INSIDE that folder make seperate folders for each driver you are going to download...like "chipset" "audio" etc etc....then download the correct driver to the correct folder..then go into that folder and double click it and it'll tell u what to do etc

then go online and do all the windows updates..for xp AND w98

No devices found for the search criteria entered
I cannot find these drivers that i need i appreciate your help but i have been around dells website for years and theres nothing there for 98 and this laptop.....yes theres some but there doesnt seem to be the ones i need?

okay, I see what u mean about the win98 audio drivers....

do this..boot to the xp install and see what it shows for audio devices

what type of audio does it show there...post back and tell us what brand audio card xp found..then maybe we can find some w98 drivers.

-----

or it is possible that they are included with the chipset drivers...have you installed those yet??

also at that first link I gave...over at the left u will see "current configuration" and "original configuration"....you can click on those and it will "profile" your computer and tell what parts are in it etc..that will help find the drivers etc
