Kids BF v 1.6 & ANY mods

Does DC, EOD or FH run with patch 1.6 for bf? I have them all but none work. DC is ok single player. MP crashes. I have .30 EOD and the .31 patch it also plays sp but crashes when 3/4 way map loaded. FH loads hole way-crashes right before going to map. This is on my lan (my friend has his own copy so diff passwords and all retail cd's with no no-cd patches) and on the .net. I have the deluxe edition box set. I have tried reinstalling but no help. The game was on my D drive so Im hoping reinstalling to C may fix it. Others are saying its the 1.6patch and certain pc configs that arent working....? Others said its the cd check thats bummed? But none seems to really know? LOL. So I wanted to know if anyone here was running 1.6 and any of the mods alright.

Nope. Even when fresh installed onto c drive no go. Heres what it says in EOD debug file. Oh and this is with Win XP, DX9 and Radeon 9800 running either cat 4.3 or 4.4 (same results)

LOL. "unsupported texture" ? Say what? Sorry its so long! Thats only the end of it where it went wrong too. After its saying no DXT3 support it litterally shuts down, closes all objects and goes to desktop as report basically says. So its not networking related or anything else??? Maybe a Video driver thing or compat setting as report implies? These mods arent EA or DICE tested after all. Thing is original BF is running fine now. Servers that are running good I do o.k. on. And on the lan here-perfectly stable. Just not one mod has worked since V1.6 for BattleField 1942. Old DC and V 1.45 was awsome. Worked on net, lan-everything. Little too mauch for d-up bandwidth but asside from that great. Now even newest DC or anything else wont run. Anyone have any idea's or link's or anything (desperate-HELP). Im getting NAM this week I think but I hear it too has some BAD bugs now. Whats happening to this great game?

as far as the mods I can't really help you there , but it seems like they ran on mine with the latest patches (dc i'm fairly certain does Eod i think does but i can't swear to that as i haven't played either since i got BF Vietnam.)

BF Vietnam's main problem seems to be having updated vid drivers for Nvidia and ATI cards. also it seems to help if you turn AA and AS off. EA/dice are working on a patch that is to be released soon to fix a couple of the bugs and balance issues with the game. some of the biggest issues are in the server setup. (Its an even bigger resource hog than BF 1942.) helocopters that seem to be indestructable, and people thinking the M60 is to powerful. My biggest bief is what seems to be heavy duty armor plating on the helos when we know for a fact they were thin skinned. (that and since when did they have bullet proof glass?) You can unload an M60 at the window and not kill the pilot, but throw a grenade in front of it and he will die. whats up with that?
Over all its a good game if your computer is up to spec.

You may wanna try a different source for your downloads of EoD and DC, since the ones you have may be messed up [It happened to me before]. EoD .31 is the latest version and is compatible with BF 1.6. DC's newest patch is .7 and also works with 1.6. FH didnt work for me originally, but I had to find another download source and it worked.

Eod .31 and DC .7 are both compatible with BF v1.6, and run just fine on my computer. I don't have FH as I don't really like it so I couldn't tell you.

Talk Need to vent-sorry

Well the EOD dw is fine. I have .30 and the .31 patch also. After alot of fiddling around I found this out. I looked at all the DXT3 errors. I can run it ONE time then it wont run again. I go into 3d settings. (ATI card) and turn "OFF" DXT compat and apply. Then turn it right back on. It will run that game-but next reboot, its back to crashing and not restoring the desktop res. This is between EA and ATI, I just know it. Its one or the others bug. This gets stranger. LOTS of folks having trouble with BF nam and ati's (searching google). Welp. Im not. LOL. Its run beutifully. Had 2 nights in a row of lan gaming goodness not one issue, not even a small one. Its twice the beast in req. at that. And Im the server so I should have had issues if any of the pc's would but didnt. None of'em had probs. One ATI 9800 (sapphire non pro) One with Geforce3 Original (Visiontek) and one with the ATI 8500 (not le). All ran great. The original BF was buggier IMHO but Nam has such a bad rep already for being almost beta'ish. Why?

On the non mod related side of things. When is EA gonna care about their games running on all machines not just Nvidia powered ones? Cause even the new EA check (NAM's) says my video is a 1mb "unknown" type. Hmmm. Its one of the MOST popular cards (9800) yet its unknown to ea help and support? Thats really laim. Its time they support the products, it did cost $40 after all. Not $5 bin crap.

Note that ea WILL NOT even mention any card brand anymore except Nvidia. Thats sad too. More to pull the noobs in with. "the box says nvidia G3 to 4 so if I want the game to work good thats what I'll need". Thats the thoughts of the commen newb to pc gaming scene. They know it. I know it. We all know it (that know pc's). And I dont care about that soo much even though it is pathetic. Just aslong as they would even SUPPORT all pc's. Period.

I like this the most read this its the nam readme file-part of it........................................

"ATI 9800 PRO
- Battlefield does not support some of the hardware features of the
ATI 9800.
If you experience strange graphical anomalies with this card,
exit Battlefield Vietnam and bring up the display properties on your desktop.
Click on Settings -> Advanced -> 3D. In the 3D settings for
Direct3D make sure the "Use custom settings" box is not checked.
If it is, make sure the "Application Preference" checkboxes for
anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering are turned on."


Now. ATI set the dx9 spec WITH M$. So its pure dx9 spec. Hmmm. Nvidia has a bad dx 9 unit. Theirs is "broken" so to speak as it doesnt support ALL the dx 9 specs. Basically read between the lines. EA customised the game engine as Nvidia didnt adhear to dx9 spec fully. And while doing that and still claiming to be a dx9 game, it doesnt run all the dx9 stuff on 9800. This shows most in the optimised aa and af parts of 9800. Remember they tweaked that after the 9500/9700 series and is why 9800 is a bit faster at high res with aa and af enabled. DICE rocks. BEyond any doubt. And they are who made Bf/MOHAA/COD. There rocking games. I wish it wasnt pubslished and owned by EA though.
Cause with EA come the ea issues. The crappy cd protection few older EA titles wont work in some of my new cdroms. And the we patched it but didnt address ANY video issues but nvidia ones stuff. This is all of course just my opinion. But the whole mess sure stokes my fire.
