cd burning problems...

I have no idea why, but everytime i try to burn a cd I get a buffer underrun error, heres what i have tried so far with no fix:

burning the image to the HD
disabling the built in windows xp burner
closing all other programs
different brands of cdr's
different burning programs
running at 1x speed

specs that matter:

p4 2.53 ghz
1gb ram

I have no idea what else I can do. It used to work fine, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Have you updated the burners firmware? and is DMA enabled?

BTW, what brand and model number is your burner?

I have updated the firmware, how do I enable DMA?

Right click My computer, properties, hardware tab, device manager, IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, right click secondary IDE channel, properties, advanced settings, transfer mode, select "DMA if available" on all the devices installed.

Well I got DMA enabled but it is still not working....

What drive do you have and how old is it?

Device manager lists it as cd-r/rw RW7083A. Its about three years old or so.

What firmware version have you upgraded to?

If your gonna download it, download the 1.20 I have highlighted in bold.

tried to update the firmware but keep getting this error:

Cannot change Drive to Up Mode.

Make sure Selected Target Drive.
