Recording on XP

Hey,
I recently came across an old but quite decent mic headset thing often seen adorned by CS fanatics. I don't intend to use it online since it's anoys anyone who can't understand the idiot who speaks through it.

Anyway, the problem is I cant record anything using the mic headset and the windows sound recorder.

It's not a broken headset, it works on Win98 alright.
The name on the side is I guess common but it helps 'boom mic headset'.
I'm on XP Pro
The mic line is plugged into the right plug. The pink one right?

Uh, can't think of anything else useful.

Any advice on how to get it to record would be much appreciated. Drivers, editing the mixer.exe file or w/e, I'd just like to record some things for a FarCry mod I'm making atm.
TIA

have you looked in control panel- sound
see what the recording device is set at, click on volume and see that the microphone is selected

Still no luck.

The recording device is C-Media Wave Device. Selected Microphone and still no wavy lines on the oscilliscope on the windows recorder...

Turn up all the volumes related to input, and then go into Sound Properties > Advanced, and somewhere in there is something about 'Mic Boost'. Check that, and try again.
