Would changing ATI cards require driver reinstall?
I have a Sapphire ATI 9100 (8500LE) card that I will be replacing with a PowerColor ATI 9600Pro.
Do I have to do the whole nine yards of a uninstall and reinstall when I switch these cards using the same driver package?
Originally posted by HeadBand the drivers are associated with the 9100 and if you install the 9600 it will just think the 9100 is gone and there is a new card with no drivers
if you have the installer for the drivers on the hard disk though there is no reason you will need to download them again though
That would be the issue. Because it isn't the EXACT same card even though it is a ATI chip, Windows would do a new hardware found routine?
Also after uninstalling the driver and its utilities, use Driver Cleaner before installing the latest driver so that you dont end up with issues or errors because of this. It works, and its recommended. You can find it at this site.
Well it seems that everyone is against that idea yet I swapped my 8500LE for a 9800pro using same drivers [basically latest] and card was recognised and no probs since
Well, I did a complete uninstall and reinstall, but went back to 3.6
With 4.4 I couldn't stretch the width enough to fill up the screen.
I have a 2nd bootable HDD and I tried just changing cards without a uninstall. It didn't work. I got the 'new hardware found' wizard and had to do a uninstall and reinstall as I did in the other drive.
Both HHD's use 2k w/sp4
