halo freezing

*Edit* no freeze just restarted!!

i'm helpin a friend here with his problem with halo. he hasnt updated and he tried out SP and within a few minutes the computer just restarted...

he has a radeon 8500 pro 64MB AGP video card
DX 9.0b - ran dxdiag all display test pass
pentium 4 2.4Ghz
512MB of memory (i'm not sure, and he's not sure of the brand)
win 2000 pro

need any other info? or does he need to update because the patch fixes crashing? he doesnt have cable internet - 56K modem so he doesnt want to play multiplayer, just SP

I would check his PSU and see what Brand and max amp ratings along the 3.3, 5 and 12 volt rails.
Run memtest86 on the RAM as well and try to find out what brand.

For updates, go online on the multiplayer. It automatically checks for updates then downloads them .
