Ad-Aware & reboot
Hi, when I had 98se, after running Ad-Aware I was asked to resytart windows because of regeristry changes.
Now with XP Pro I never get asked to restart windows, but I do anyway to be safe
there have been other things that asked for a reboot in 98se and not XP also
anyone shed some light on this??

This is probably due to that Ad-Aware found spyware that use themself as processes and the only way to delete them is to restart Windows. It probably found this type of spyware in Windows 98 and not in Windows XP. This type of spyware are classified as high risk ones, so you better be aware of them. Anyways HTH's

Plus there are some operations that XP and 2000 can do that don't require a reboot or even a restart of Windows, but in 98 some of those same operations did require a reboot. You can dig in Google if you need more specific details, that's all I know at the moment. |

Thats also true. For example in Windows 98, in the network settings, if you change anything, lets say like the IP, you will have to reboot the system, while in Windows 2000/XP you won't. This is one of the improvements Microsoft has done with their OS withing these years.

good point, but a loop hole I've run Ad-Aware on 98se and all the tracking cookies were "LOW" still asked for a restart
In XP the same tracking cookies do not require a restart
from time to time I've right clicked on all of them just out of curiosity and boredom

ok I see the point of both of you, a better OS less reboot/restart
so it is safe to say, after running Ad-Aware, if it don't ask for it don't do it, and with any app that does not ask for a restart/reboot
if XP needs it it will ask for it

One tip: If you want to get rid of those annoying tracking cookies without having to use Ad-Aware all the time, use this program. Its not a spyware remover tool, its a spyware preventer, which will block most of those malicious cookies so you dont have to delete them later. It really works, saves you time, and best of all, its freeware.

| Depends on what you mean with better.
Windows 98 is sometimes prefered over Windows XP.
Many people swear to it in terms of gaming for example. Quote: |
