Double check your jumper setting with maxtors site, make sure you are not reading it upside down.
Make sure your jumper isn't broken
Go into the bios and the drive configuration section and set the drives to user select then hit enter. The bios should find the drive and show it and sectors size etc.
Come back if that doesn't work
Fr4gm4n made a good suggestion.
I figured if you came back and said the bios didn't see it when you chose user then you should trouble shoot the drive.
Keep us posted.
YOU Flashed the BIOS???
OK why not take it from the top tell us what you did and use complete sentences to make sure we understand...

Wow. Pretty harsh suggestion there. Personally, I'd want to first troubleshoot the drive...and only if it still gives problems then maybe I'd shoot the drive.
thanx for the help earlier i got the bios update and flashed and it is showing in my bios now but when i open my computer it doesn't show there...
is there something i am missing here do i need to name it maybe ? how?
o/s xp
450 p3
128 stick and 256 stick sdram
15 master drive
40 slave this is the one not showing in my computer
Have you formatted/partitioned the disk since you got the bios to recognize it? This need to be done in order for the OS to use the new storage space. You need to go to disk management to do this.

I've want to shoot them a few times, but mainly jacking around with jumpers and pulling them in and putting them in, once it's there try everything before a new cable!
Oh a new family tradition the Maxtor baked dinner.
