I've found that using TEMPGnc 2.5 Plus and TEMPGnc DVD Author 1.5
http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/index.html do a good job of creating a DVD movie from vob files.
If you use TEMPGnc to convert Avi to Mpeg 2, then use TEMPGnc DVD Author to create the Video_TS files for a movie, you can use two free programs, imgtool and DVD Decrypter to burn those files to a DVD ... a much faster process than using Nero burning and with a very good video quality on the output.
Follow these instructions for using imgtools and DVD Decrypter for a very easy simple solution:
Get ImgTools classic version. MAKE sure it is the CLASSIC VERSION!
Make sure your VIDEO_TS folder is in another FOLDER
For instance on your main drive make a FOLDER with the name of the back-up (i.e., the name of the movie). For this example let us say that we call it SUPERMOVIE
Now put your VIDEO_TS folder with your DVD files in that SUPERMOVIE folder.
Start up ImgTools and select the folder that the VIDEO_TS folder is in ... so in our example you select the folder called SUPERMOVIE
ImgTools will now create an empty AUDIO_TS folder in the SUPERMOVIES folder and then create a single large ISO IMAGE file which DVD Decrypter can burn to a DVD recordable.
In fact if you have the newest versions of both ImgTools classic and DVD Decrypter you can set it up so that ImgTools will launch DVD Decypter upon completing the ISO IMAGE file and DVD Decrypter will start burning automatically.
This method works great and creates a much more compliant DVD in the end than using NERO to burn.
What's nice is that when you're done DVD Decrypter has created an ISO image that you can archive as your final product and burn as often as you like.
