New computer...first boot problems!

Hey guys, this is my first time building a computer and I have run into some problems. Alright, unfortunately i do not have a manual for my motherboard (asus a7n8x) but ive been looking at the online one. Neways, this is my first time and i am having problems. Ive connected, the cpu and heatsink, memory, video card, power supply cable to the motherboard (and the little power thingies from the case) and i power the system on and the cpu fan spins, the memory module lights on red in the corner etc but i get no signal from the monitor. Could i be missing something to correct this? I get no beeps but im not sure if a speaker is even connected. Secondly, i am pretty sure my video card is seated properly but i cant even push it down anymore becuz the case (where you screw it in) wont let it go down more, so im just guessing that it is properly. Other than the main power cable, is there supposed any other cables from the power source going to the mother in a bare system (memory, cpu, video)? And last question, there are still some connectors from the case unused because i dont know which way to put them (online manual not to good with it) and they are labeled hdd led, turbo led and two usb ones i think with 5 v, ground, +d,-d. With these not in the control panel cause my problem? Alright i think thats it, hope you guys can help been stumped for a while. If possible it would help to talk on aim who knows a lot about this

If in doubt STOP and w8 til you have some1 there that nos more.

Take the mobo out of the case.....

Build it on the work top with something soft under it....

Take all parts off it....

Re-set bios...

Paste CPU and fit it into mobo, fit fan.

Place memory and video card into mobo. Fit power lead.

Plug keyboard in.

Turn on, use screw driver accross "power switch pins" ( look at manual )

Press DEL or F1 or F2 to enter bios. Set bios up, makeing sure CPU is saying what its ment to be, 1800+ say. Same with memory.

Save and exit.

If you could not even get it to turn on then you will have to test every part in a PC thats working.

I hope the bios was just set-up wrong. CPU might need setting up via dip switchs on mobo. Hope you hav

e the right manual.

First of all... The Red LED next to the AGP card shout NOT be lit. If it is lit, there is a problem with the AGP card. This could be that it is an older, non 1.5v card or there is a problem with the card or it may not be seated correctly. Make sure that the card is pushed in all the way along the strip, it should go in fairly easily.

Some AGP Pro cards require the little plastic tab removing from the end of the AGP slot, I am not sure if your card needs this. Also, what does ASUS post reporter say, plug some speakers into the onboard sound card (green socket) and listen what it says.

This is the first thing you need to sort out before you start doing anything else.

You could try another graphics card if you have one, if that does not work and the red LED stays on, there may be a problem with the motherbaord.

You shold be able to a Power On Self Test (POST) screen with no harddrive, etc connected.

In fact, that is the best to do, so you can trouble shoot one item at a time, as you add it.

Here are links to your mobo and a download for the manual.

After a post screen, you need enter setup, change the boot order to 1st device CD Rom, 2nd HDD 0, and disable the rest until you load windows.

Get the monitor problem fixed first, and get to a post screen. You might want to check the CPU temp in the system Health page of the setup screen before proceeding. This step will eliminate overheating as an issue later.

Installed hard drive, speaker thingie says no floppy disk detected but that shouldnt e the reason why no video output is coming right? ive tried inside and outside the case and both times no dice, i removed the plastic thing on the agp slot still no signal from the monitor. Any other ideas? I mean for all i know it could be working but I cant see anything its just blank and amber whatever

So, you get beep codes...that indicates the computer is POSTing and you cannot see it.

So that suggest VGA card and monitor.

It is difficult to imagine what is happening there...but you can try a few things:

1) Change the Power cable to the monitor...or run it from the wall not the computer
2) Try different VGA out ports on the card...so if there are two...other one may be the main one.
3) Swap the card and see if that corrects the prob
4) Try a different monitor

In my experience motherboards, CPUs, Memory and VGA cards are a lot more robust that thought...

the floppy, hard drive etc etc have nothing to do with getting video....also those other little connectors from the case have nothing to do with it.

---

i am not too clear on what u mean here---> Alright i plugged in the speakers and it said failed memory test so i reseated it and it worked the memory is fixed but now it says no ide hard disk detected, no ide hard disk detected no floppydetected no keyboard detected but still no output to the monitor

Ok, how are you seeing it say "failed memory test" etc if u have no monitor picture??
