Outdoors Windows Xp hates CD drives

I rebooted my computer and suddenly my CD drive doesn't work, it doesn't show up under My Computer. I went to device manager and the CD drive had this error

Quote:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
I've tried updating Windows drivers. I've tried updating drivers from the manufacturer. I've tried uninstalling the device then re-adding it. I've tried changing CD drives.
The computer has never crashed. I have never screwed around with anything in the registry.

How do I fix this?

Asus A7N8X-X motherboard
Windows XP Home (with all current updates)
CD drives tried:
Mitsumi 24x CD-ROM
Retail+ 20x10x40 CD-RW

I don't know if your registry is damaged or not but if there is an invalid entry causing the problem perhaps running RegSupreme will fix the problem.

Free to try.

As always, when working with the registry first back it up.

Found the solution
http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforum...read.php?t=980

Had to delete a few keys and a few values from the registry. Everything is fine now.

Thanks for help, and I will look into that registry program. An online friend says it's a great program.

cd-rom drives don't need any drivers to work, except in w98 and older systems
