Hardrive Dying ??

I think my HD is on its way out just need some assurances before i toss it out and buy another.Its a fujitsu 20gib hd on an older pc using W98.I got a BSOD one day saying cant write to c drive disk error.The drive was also slowing down and speeding up.I tried scandisk and it found one bad sector so as a last resort i formatted the drive and installed W98 again.It worked fine for a while but i only had it on for 1 hr or so.Tonight i left the pc running for a few hrs to hear it spinning up and down and when i tried to do anything got the BSOD again and cant write to c drive.Its 4 yrs old is it kaput ?

Sure sounds like it... not worth the risk of losing anything important.

That's how my last drive died.

Started spinning up and down then quit.

Yup, time to get the important data off the drive before it completly dies. Afreind of mine had the same problem and the drive would only spin for about 20 mins from cold :S

My advice is to get any data that is important and back it up.

New HDs are so cheap it doesn't pay to worry about it.

Yep sure sounds like it.Its now working ok for a few minutes from boot up then its the BSOD and cant write to drive c/ error spinning up and down all the time.
