nic cards different from onboard?
hey people yet another problem from me about my computer, um i have a soyo kt-400 mobo with via onboard 10/100 mbs ethernet plug, and i recently got verizon online dls and i moved the modem into my room and put in the cd-rom and it said i cant establish a connection becuz i dont have a nic card, and yes my drivers for my onboard lan were updated and working, and i was like ok, so i uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and nothing, then my friend borught his computer over and he has onboard lan that works at his house and it didnt work, it said the same, now when i plug it in it says connected at 100 mbs but it wont allow me to get on aim nor internet explorer, then i borrowed my friends dell latitude laptop and then huh.... it worked and all we did was plug it in, and i looked at the properties of the card and it said something 10/100 mbs fast ethernet/nic and i was like darn, and it also works fine in my dads room he has a dell 8300, i was wondering if i really need a pci nic card, and if i do whats a good one. under 30 bucks! or is there a way i can get it working without a nic card, and is there even a difference between the 2?
