Z680 sub overheating?

I was listening to twisted freak show today, and I had the speakers at about 90% volume and windows volume at 100%. Also the sub was turned up allt he way at 100%. So you could say it was pretty freaking loud in my room. As I was dancin away(sorry, NO pictures) I smelled somthing that smelled like burning rubber or somthing. As I got closer to my sub the smell got stronger. I turned the volume down and then put my hand on the back of the heatsink, it was pretty freakin hot back there. I couldn't keep my hand on it for longer than 2 seconds before it started burning. I was wondering if this is normal for the sub to get this hot after playing music for only about 20 minutes, not even at full volume? Should I move the sub to a place that gets better cooling? Or is it ok for it to get this hot?

-Biz

Darn, that would mean I have to move the sub across the room. The side of the room the sub sits its 77°F, on the other side of the room its 75°F. a big change in temp and air movement.

You could just get a little box fan or something and put it where it blows on the sub.

Biz I have the z680's and I was listening to Eminem and #18 on The Eminem Show (sorry don't remember the name of the song) I had it cranked with everything maxed on Stereo2 and after about 10 sec I smelt the same burning. Maybe the sub doesn't have an adequit hs...

nope it wans't distorting at all, the sub cone was moving, but not a full 2 inches I would say. If I put on some of my trance cds, i can get the cone moving pretty good. I've never had the songs distort, unless I have the crossover set wrong. If you set teh equalizer, and crossover correctly for the type of music you listen too, even at 100% volume it shouldn't distort.

Put a cooling fan on the back of the sub...problem solved.

Also, turn down the volume if you want to be able to hear without tinnitus (or hear at all).

A lot of times, I like to go outside, so I just open my bedroom window. I don't have to carry a cd-player with me. I can pull weeds, edge, chill, etc... and still here my music.
