Systems plz help, im lost!

Ive just built a computer. Its the first time ive done one form scratch although i did help a friend.

The whole thing was going grand this morning. And i decided to add ian intake fan.

Screwed it in and connected it up to a spare molex put the side panel back on and hit the power button

The whole thing does as usual all the way to the xp boot screen. Then the monitor turns off!

at first i just though typical... and mader sure everything was connected properly before trying again. Still no score.

Got the monitor form this comp and tried. Same problem.

So now im thinking vid card. Remove re-insert and try again. Nope.

Ive now removed all my lights and the fan i added. I still cant get anywhere.

PLease help!

You wouldn't happen to have onboard video in your motherboard and another video card would you?

If it just started after you added the intake fan, you must have done something else that would have caused it to happen, before then or while adding it.

Not sure...

Nope, I was thinking you might have had a conflict between your video card and the motherboard's onboard video.

That conflict only occurs once you get into Windows.
It's happened to me before.

I would try a different video card...ANY OLD video card, AGP/PCI etc.

When a system first cranks up. the monitor is controlled from a very basic size and resolution, the Windows (your 'special' video) drivers have not been loaded yet... you may not even have installed the drivers yet if you cannot fully get into Windows after the OS install. You didn't mention just how far along you were with the OS install, but it appears to be a new install.

A monitor switches frequency when going from "DOS" (or boot screen) into Windows. For whatever reason, it looks like your monitor is blanking out at the time it should be changing frequencies.

Check in your BIOS for anything related to video and/or monitor control.

Try loading your OS in safe mode. (BTW..what OS are you using)?

Good idea, Bovon.
He's running Windows XP.

Wishmaster, try and see if you can get into safe mode.
