WinME - C:\windows\system folder opens when pc boots up

I've got a Windows ME machine that frequently [but not always] opens the folder c:\windows\system when the machine is booted up even though this window was not open when the machine was previously shut down. How do I prevent this?
Thanks

Machine is clean of virii and spyware/adware. Spent all day cleaning hundreds of spyware/adware issues out of it.

just a couple of guesses, but it could be a virus, try opening msconfig (is there one for ME?) and check to see if that is checked to load when the computer boots up..... ummm..... that's all i can think of at the moment! i dont know anything about ME.

extreme_gamer I think you were correct about a line in the msconfig> start up list. There were 2 lines something like this
C:\windows\system <Title error Title>
and
C:\windows\system the site you requested doesn't exist
I unchecked them and it seemed to fix it.
Thanks

hey wow i fixed something! np and yw! you might, if you can, just delete those two startup lines. the downloaded msconfig i have allows you to delete start up program lines. actually it's startupcl from mlin.net (Edit) it could possibly have been some spyware or adware, so run spybot or adware 6 or both to see if you have anything that needs deleted too!
